Internet has growing bottom up fashions

InternetInternet is a huge repository of information on almost every topic  based on imaginable. People all over the world can hire the net for information, include new trendy information and exchange views on diverse topics. The Internet is an electronic web that joints people and businesses that have access to networks and allows them to dispatch and retrieve E-mail (Electronic Mail) and to participate in a number of other diverse functions, around the clock.

Features:
  1. It has no central controlling body.
  2.  It is fully capable of handling an increase in the number of users and in the,  intensity of traffic.
  3. The user can be a machine, an individual or any business entity.
  4. The backbone networks that make up the internet are owned and managed by private companies.
  5. Private companies often share physical lines.
  6. Backbone lines on the Internet are linked at (NAPs), where (ISPs) can exchange traffic. TCP/IP is a standard protocol suite for Internet.
Advantages:
1.    It is the only way to connect the globe.
2.      Cheapest way of communication.
3.      Fastest way of communication.
4.      Publically governed i.e. generalized standards are followed.
5.      Best mode of education and business.

Disadvantages
1.      Insufficient security.
2.      It has little valuable information.
3.      It is a wasting of time because searching and retrieval takes too much time.

Various Technologies of connecting to Internet

There are four technologies of connecting to the internet  as follows-
  1. Host/Terminal connection.
  2. Individual Computer TCP/IP link.
  3. Dial-up access through LAN
  4. Dedicated Access
Various Technologies of connecting to Internet
Host/Terminal Connection  - Host/Terminal connection is the least expensive type of Internet access. In this kind of method, our Computer is not actually connected to the Internet, but we use it as a terminal which is remote to an Internet host or server. This method needs a modem and a phone line. Using host/terminal connection, only text based applications can be approached on the Internet and we cannot access graphical applications, since by using this method. We get access to the shell of a Unix computer and it is also known as shell Access Connection.

TCP/IP, SLIP and PPP Links  - TCP/IP, Slip and PPP links are common forms of Internet Connections used by most home users. TCP/IP is the abbreviation of two Internet Protocols. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP). TCP permits two internet connections. IP is responsible for routing the data packets to a desired, destination IP address. TCP/IP link needs a modem or an ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) adapter to an analog phone line or on ISDN Line. With-this Link the user computer is assigned a temporary, IP address and is immediately connected to the Internet.

TCP/IP Links can either be SLIP (Serial Link Internet Protocol) or PPP (point to point protocol) links, Slip and PPP Links differ in following ways-

SLIP link
PPP Link
1. Slip stands for Serial Link Internet Protocol.
1. PPP stands for point to point protocol.
2. Slip is an earlier protocol.
2. PPP is a new protocol.
3. Slower in Speed
3. It is faster in speed.

Dedicated Link connection  - Dedicated link connection is a permanent Internet connection which allows any user's computer to always connected to the Internet round the clock. It can be easily get set up through a telephone line by use of a router or a modem. A router is an electronic device that analyzes each data packet on receiving and provides the way to lend it towards its destination. So route transmits data from one network to other one. We can also use a modem instead of a router. Whereas router supplies higher transmission speed (more than 56 kbps) while a modem provides low speed (i.e. up to 56 kbps). Dedicated link connections are generally used by big organizations providing on line Internet services to their customers.

Dial-UP TCP/IP Link Through LAN  - Dial-up TCP link through LAN is an intermediate type of connection between TCP/IP Line and Dedicated Link as it provides some features of both these connection servers. It is generally used to exchange a large volume of E-mail messages on a little Internet Traffic.

These above are the four ways of connecting to Internet. I hope, it is informative. Feel Free to make comment (feedback)...
