2013 Trends in Web Design
In the designing process of a website, web design is the term used to describe the client side of a website. It includes user experience design, authoring, interface design, and search engine optimization (to name a few).

Pop culture, market, art, fashion and of course technology are the cause of trends in web design. For this reason, you can not predict its exact future. However, they say that the best way to predict future behaviour is by looking at past behaviour. If that’s the case, let’s have a look at some trends that have become increasingly popular since first released.

Response Web Design

Due to the release of new devices, such as smart phones, that are used for internet browsing, websites are increasingly being designed to work on both desktops and phones. Now, because of Response Web Design, websites can be adjusted to fit any screen size. This helps to resolve some of those usability problems that arise while browsing on monitors with different sizes, aspect ratios and resolutions.

Replacing Flash

Flash, described in 2001 as a rich internet application, has lost most (if not all) of its je ne se quoi. Although designed for all devices as a platform for publishing multimedia, flash is increasingly being replaced by HTML5, CSS3 and Java.

The cinema experience

More websites are following the trend of making viewers feel like they are in the cinema. Huge photos, videos and very little text all help to create this effect.

More creativity, less tradition

Websites are straying more from the traditional top navigation bar, opting for a richer user experience. Through the use of animation, interactive elements, videos and photos, navigation has become more sophisticated and a whole lot more interesting.

The Parallax Effect

Web DesignThe Parallax effect is all about creating the illusion of depth. The effect is created by allowing each of the different elements in the web page, to move at different paces while the user is scrolling. It is a visual effect that engages and captivates the users. Although the Parallax Effect has been around for some time now, it became a real trend in the year 2012.

As mentioned before, the future of web design is pretty much unpredictable. After all, we do live in a time of discovery and invention. We can however predict that web designers will increasingly focus on designing that will provide viewers with a rich online experience that will (hopefully) leave a lasting impression.
