Going out to buy a new cell
phone can be a bit of a nightmare. There are so many cool phones on the market
that choosing one is tough. There are a lot of factors that you need to
consider in your purchasing decision, from price to make to operating system.
If you decide to go with an Android phone, you're making a pretty good
decision. Androids are fast, easy to use and generally very reasonably priced.
But even in the Android market there are a lot of devices to choose from. Today
we're looking at two Android phones, the Pantech Discover and the LG Optimus 4X
HD. Both of these phones run Android's 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system,
and they retail for similar prices with most mobile service operators. So we
put them to the test, head to head, to find out which is the better buy. We
wanted to compare them and to see where there differences truly lie. If you're
in the market for a new phone and you're considering either of these models,
then you might want to keep reading to find out exactly how they match up and
which one we recommend.
Why the Pantech Discover Might be the Phone for You...
The Discover is a great
little phone, and it has several benefits. Firstly, it gets faster maximum data
speeds. In general, faster data speeds mean quicker downloading and faster
opening of web pages. The Discover also has the larger screen, measuring in at
4.8 inches as opposed to the 4.7 inch screen on the Optimus. This might not
seem like a big difference, and it's not, but when you're browsing the web or
reading emails then every little bit of extra screen space helps. Finally, you
get a much better camera on the Pantech. The Discover is equipped with a
massive 12.6 MP in built device, as opposed to the standard 8 MP camera on the
Optimus. That means that photos taken with the Discover are noticeably better
quality and have more fine detail than those taken by the LG Optimus. The
Discover is not a bad package at all.
Why You Should Consider the LG Optimus 4X HD...
The main benefit of the
Optimus is it's screen. It does have the smaller display, but it is better
quality. The display on the Optimus has two and a half times higher screen
resolution as well as seventy per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). These two
things combined mean that the picture quality on the Optimus is noticeably
brighter, clearer and crisper than that of the Pantech Discover.
Which One Do You Recommend?
We do like the better picture
quality on the LG Optimus 4X HD. However, when it comes to value for money, the
Pantech Discover just has more and better features. The larger screen and the
better camera really make it a much better deal than the Optimus. There are
both great phones though, and we wouldn't be disappointed with either. But in
the end, the Pantech Discover just edges out the Optimus to get our
recommendation.
