There
are so many great mobile devices on the market nowadays that choosing a new one
can be a little overwhelming. And it isn't helped by the fact that mobile
service providers are offering bigger and better deals all the time. Of course,
some people are looking for top of the range devices, and so have a more limited
choice. But these top of the line phone represent a big investment, plus
they're full of features that the average user neither wants not needs. If you
have a slightly more modest budget, there are still plenty of great mobile
phones for you to choose from, and today we're looking at two of them. The
first is the Nokia N8 (occasionally called the Nokia N98, due to a change in
Nokia's naming policies), and the second is the Sony Xperia Tipo. Both of these
are excellent budget choices, but we wanted to know which one of them is
better. So we put these two devices to the test to find out exactly how they

Why You Should Go With the Sony Xperia Tipo...
The
Tipo has a few advantages. It is the faster phone, running an 800 MHz processor
that makes it more powerful and snappier than the 680 MHz processor on the
Nokia. It also runs double the amount of RAM of the Nokia, making it more
responsive and better able to handle multi-tasking or running more than one
process at a time. Plus, it gets faster maximum data speeds, meaning you get
quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages. Being an Android phone
means that you're connected to the Android App Market, which contains around
nine times more available apps than the Nokia store, so you get much more
choice. And finally, the Tipo come in both smaller and lighter than the Nokia.
What the Nokia N8 Can Do...
However,
the Nokia has a few good points of its own. It has a far better camera, being
equipped with a massive 12.1 MP in built device rather than the 3.2 MP camera
on the Sony. This means that photos taken with the Nokia are better quality and
have more fine detail than those taken by the Sony. You also get a lot more
internal storage. The Nokia has 16 GB of internal memory, versus just 2.9 GB on
the Tipo, meaning you can store a lot more music, photos, data and videos on
your device. And the display is better quality too, with fifty per cent higher
screen resolution and twenty per cent more PPI, meaning that the picture
quality is brighter, sharper and crisper than that on the Sony.
What's the Better Deal?
The
Sony Xperia Tipo is faster. However, the better camera, screen quality and more
storage on the Nokia N8 persuade us that it's just much better value for money.
